Enclosed auto transport moves a vehicle inside a covered trailer instead of on an open deck, so it never touches weather, road salt, stone chips or dust. Dawley Logistics arranges it out of Burlington, Wisconsin through DS Brokerage, our sister company.

What an enclosed trailer takes
Covered trailers are specialist equipment, and the spec decides what can ride. Here is what ours handle.
- Capacity
- Up to seven vehicles per trailer
- Loading
- Liftgate — the deck comes down to the car
- Clearance
- Lowered, modified, drift and rally builds
- Condition
- Operable is routine; non-running is possible when you tell us up front
- Personal items
- Up to 100 lb of non-valuable items in the vehicle
- Not carried
- RVs and campers
When enclosed is worth it
Covered transport earns its price when one stone chip is a real problem, or when the car cannot climb a ramp. Around Burlington, Racine County and the wider southeast Wisconsin corridor, that usually means:
- Collector and classic cars, including running restorations
- Exotics and high-value late-model vehicles
- Lowered, modified, drift and rally builds
- Show cars that have to roll straight to the gate
- Fresh paint, new wraps and ceramic coatings
- Imports and auction buys arriving from out of state
Salt is the reason most of these moves happen
Winter crews salt Highways 11, 36, 83 and 142 from November through March, and the I-43 and I-94 corridors get the same treatment. A covered trailer keeps brine, slush and stone chips off the vehicle for the whole run south.

Why a carrier arranges a better enclosed move
We are a carrier first, not a phone-only brokerage. Running our own trucks is why we can tell when a carrier is blowing smoke about a lane.
We own the trucks
Roughly 90–95% of our loads ride on our own open nine-car haulers out of Burlington. We know what a lane actually costs and how long it takes.
About 75% of carriers get screened out
Every enclosed carrier is checked for licensing, operating authority, equipment, insurance and compliance. The carrier we confirm is the carrier that shows up.
The quote is the price
No hidden fees, no negotiation, no asterisk, even if the carrier costs us more. The one condition: tell us the vehicle’s condition and any modifications.
Which one does your vehicle actually need?
Most vehicles do not need a covered trailer, including plenty of classics. Here is the honest comparison.
On our own nine-car haulers
- The everyday method, and the lower price of the two
- Runs on Dawley equipment across the Midwest corridor
- Exposed to weather and road spray, same as driving it
- Right for daily drivers, dealer inventory and fleet moves
Covered trailer, liftgate loading
- Sealed from weather, salt, dust and stone chips
- Liftgate loading for low-clearance and modified cars
- Up to seven vehicles per trailer, on vetted carriers
- Right for collector, exotic, show and freshly painted vehicles
Not sure which side your vehicle falls on? Describe it on the phone — if open transport will do the job, we will tell you that. Show-field vehicles are their own conversation: see car show and race car transport. Covered runs in and out of the city are on Chicago auto transport.
How an enclosed move runs, start to finish
-
You describe the vehicle
Pickup, drop, year and model, ride height, modifications, whether it runs.
-
You get one price
Quoted for what the lane actually moves for. Nothing is booked until you say so.
-
The trailer arrives
Condition is documented against the bill of lading, then the liftgate takes it up level.
-
You walk it again at the drop
Same bill of lading. If anything is off, we pause with the carrier and you have an action plan within 24 hours.
Enclosed runs are not only for one-off collector moves — dealers and auction buyers use the same equipment for high-value units. See auto transport and car shipping from Burlington for the full picture, or snowbird transport south if this is a seasonal round trip.
Our own trucks work the Midwest corridor. The brokerage covers the rest.
Dawley Logistics is a carrier first, based in Burlington, Wisconsin. Our open nine-car haulers run Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit as the bread-and-butter lanes, with coverage across the Midwest plus Kentucky and Tennessee, roughly a 500-mile radius. Beyond that, DS Brokerage, our sister company, moves vehicles anywhere in the lower 48 on carriers we vet ourselves.
Questions about enclosed auto transport
How many vehicles fit on an enclosed trailer?
Up to seven, with liftgate loading for low-clearance cars. Enclosed moves run through DS Brokerage on carriers we vet ourselves.
Is enclosed auto transport worth paying for?
It is when a single stone chip is a real problem or the car cannot climb a ramp: collector cars, exotics, fresh paint and wraps, lowered and modified builds, show cars. For a daily driver, open transport on our own nine-car haulers does the same job for less, and we will tell you so.
Does enclosed transport keep road salt off the car?
Yes, and that is the main reason Wisconsin and Illinois owners book it between November and March. A covered trailer keeps brine, slush and stone chips off the vehicle for the whole run south.
Can you handle modified or lowered cars?
Yes. Modified builds, drift cars and rally vehicles ride enclosed with liftgate loading when clearance calls for it. Tell us about the modifications when you book so the quote holds.
How far ahead should I book an enclosed move?
As early as you can, especially on snowbird lanes in the fall and spring. Covered trailers are specialist equipment and there are fewer of them on the road than open haulers, so lead time is what protects your window.
Do you hand loads to random carriers?
No. Every brokered carrier is checked for licensing, operating authority, equipment, insurance and compliance, and about 75% of the carriers we screen are rejected. The carrier we confirm is the carrier that shows up.
Are you insured?
Yes. Our own trucks carry adequate, industry-leading coverage, and every brokered carrier is required to carry coverage before it is assigned a load.
