What is car show and race car transport?

Car show and race car transport is vehicle hauling scheduled against an event, not against a convenient week: the vehicle has to be at a stated venue before a stated gate time, and it often cannot be driven there. Dawley Logistics runs these out of Burlington, Wisconsin on its own nine-car haulers, with covered equipment placed through DS Brokerage when the build calls for it.

Three kinds of event

Car shows, race weekends and private events

They look similar from the outside and they are scheduled completely differently. We quote all three out of Burlington, Wisconsin, and weddings and private-event moves are booked the same way.

Shows & cruise-ins

Judged fields and fairgrounds

The car has to arrive clean, dry and early enough to be staged before judging.

  • Concours and judged classes
  • Regional meets and cruise-ins
  • Indoor winter shows
  • Club convoys travelling together
Race & track

Race weekends and test days

Miss the load-in window and the entry is gone, so these are booked against the schedule first.

  • Drift, time attack and grassroots road racing
  • Rally and stage support vehicles
  • Drag and dirt-track cars
  • Non-running cars going out for a rebuild
Private & special

One-off and closed events

Vehicles that are the centrepiece of something, with a fixed call time and a tidy exit.

  • Weddings and anniversaries
  • Corporate displays and dealer open houses
  • Film, photo and commercial shoots
  • Charity drives and parades
Working backwards

The clock, not the mileage

Every other kind of vehicle move is priced against a lane. Car show transport out of Burlington is priced against a deadline. Here is the order we build the booking in.

  1. Gate time

The one fixed point. Everything else is calculated from it, including buffer for weather on the interstate.

  2. Load-in window

Venues open and close their gates on a schedule. We ask for it in writing where the event publishes one.

  3. Pickup day

Set early enough to absorb a delay, usually with a day in hand rather than a fifteen-minute margin.

  4. Return leg

Booked in the same conversation. The truck that brings you home is far harder to find on the Sunday.

Tell us what has been done to it

A show or race car is rarely stock, and the modifications decide the equipment. None of this is a problem for race car transport when we hear it before the truck is dispatched — it is only a problem at the curb.

  • Coilovers, air ride and slammed static setups
  • Splitters, canards, diffusers and large wings
  • Cages, harnesses and stripped interiors
  • Slicks, drag radials and track-only tyres
  • Drift and rally builds with limited steering lock
  • Cars that will not start, or start only on a jump

Wisconsin season

Our show calendar is five months long, so the trucks fill early

Southeast Wisconsin does its outdoor car show season between May and September, and half the region books the same handful of weekends. Add the indoor winter shows and the spring shakedown weekends and the calendar is lumpy rather than steady.

What that means in practice: a Saturday in July is the hardest slot to buy at short notice, and a Tuesday in April is the easiest. Call as soon as you have an entry confirmed and the date is yours.

One car or a whole group

Two very different bookings

Most people call about one car. Wisconsin clubs, shops and event organisers call about six. The car show transport quote works differently for each.

Single vehicle

Your car, your weekend

  • Shares a deck with other vehicles heading the same way
  • Pickup from a home garage, storage unit or shop bay
  • Covered available when the finish or the clearance calls for it
  • Return leg quoted at the same time as the outbound
Luxury & exotic transport
Club, shop or fleet

Several cars, one call time

  • A deck reserved for the group instead of a shared load
  • One pickup point, or a short route around several shops
  • Everything arrives together, which matters for a display
  • Recurring event schedules can be set up as a standing lane
Fleet & commercial transport

If the finish is the whole point — fresh paint, a new wrap, a concours entry — read how enclosed, covered transport works, then tell us which you want. The everyday method and its cost sit on open-deck auto transport.

Booking an event move

Four steps from entry to gate

  1. Send us the date

Venue, gate time, load-in window and where the car sits today.

  2. We match the equipment

Open deck or covered, ramp or liftgate, based on the build rather than the badge.

  3. Loading, documented

Condition goes onto the bill of lading with you standing there, before a strap is tightened.

  4. Unloaded at the venue

On site, inside the window, with the same walk-around at the drop. If anything is off you have an action plan within 24 hours.

Moving the car south for the winter instead of to a show is winter shipping to Florida and Arizona, and a whole household of vehicles is a household vehicle move. Everything we haul out of town starts at auto transport and car shipping.

Where we run

Our own trucks work the Midwest corridor. The brokerage covers the rest.

Our open nine-car haulers run Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee and Detroit as the bread-and-butter lanes, with coverage across the Midwest plus Kentucky and Tennessee, roughly a 500-mile radius. Questions about car show vehicle transport

Can you handle modified or lowered cars?

Yes. Modified builds, drift cars and rally vehicles ride enclosed with liftgate loading when clearance calls for it. Tell us about the modifications when you book so the quote holds.

Can you guarantee the car arrives before the gate closes?

We build the schedule with a real buffer instead of promising a time we do not control. What we will not do is quote a window we already know is tight and hope the weather holds.

Can the truck get into the venue itself?

Usually. A loaded hauler runs about 75 feet nose to tail, so the open fairgrounds around Burlington and Racine County are easy and a tight downtown block is not. We agree the drop point when we book.

Can I ship spares and wheels with the car?

Up to 100 lb of non-valuable items can ride in the vehicle, which a spare set of wheels usually fits. A full pit setup is a separate conversation.

How many vehicles fit on an enclosed trailer?

Up to seven, with liftgate loading for low-clearance cars. Enclosed moves run through DS Brokerage on carriers we vet ourselves.

How fast can you pick up?

Usually same day to three days out, and delivery runs the same, depending on the lane.

Will the price change after I book?

No. The number we quote is the number you pay, even if it costs us more to secure the carrier. The one condition: the vehicle’s condition and any modifications have to be disclosed when you book. No hidden fees, no negotiation, no asterisk.
